For the love of color and contrast

Hi!  I'm Clare, and I love to paint.  I have been painting since I took a painting class in college at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.  I ended up switching to an Art major and really enjoyed printing and pastels as well as painting.  When I learned to use pastels, I experimented with fingerpainting my paints and found that I loved the texture that was created.  I began using spray paint drips to break up the painterly strokes and add more expression.  The spray paint drips seem to float and flow like jellyfish or balloons, adding a sense of mystery and wonder to my paintings.  I enjoy creating the lines on fields of color.  I experimented with adding realistic scenes along with the abstracted areas and spray paint drips, which results in a surrealist end product.  Now I have transitioned to working in oils, painting portraits of my children along with commissioned portraits.  I also enjoy painting my neighbor's sheep - they are a very interesting subject most of the time!
